Alex Ottenheimer

Associate

Alex concentrates his practice on subrogation. With nearly a decade of litigation experience, he has obtained sizable recoveries on behalf of insurer clients in both state and federal court across the country. Alex has extensive experience conducting comprehensive investigations to determine the cause of a loss and to assess liability. He leverages his experience in witness interviews, expert collaboration, and evidence analysis to build strong cases. Alex is also a skilled negotiator who can navigate complex settlements and, when necessary, advocate for clients through trials and appeals.

Prior to joining Cozen O’Connor, Alex served as house counsel for a global insurer, managing an extensive caseload of commercial and residential property subrogation claims. He also has experience defending against product defect, construction, personal injury, negligence, and other liability claims. Before that, Alex was an associate with a boutique litigation firm in Chicago where he focused on subrogation matters. Earlier in his career, Alex gained experience defending insurer clients against workers’ compensation claims.

After earning his B.S. in finance from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, Alex earned his J.D. from the Chicago-Kent School of Law with a certificate in Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution. During law school, he served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Franklin Valderrama of the Circuit Court of Cook County.
